A short story based on the Gospel reading for this Sunday: Matthew 18:15-20.
The Broken Birdhouse
Sam and Mia built a birdhouse together and proudly hung it in a tree.The next day, Sam found it broken. He heard that Mia had been climbing the tree and assumed it was her fault. Feeling hurt, Sam stopped talking to Mia.
After a few days, Sam remembered Jesus’ teaching about talking to someone when there is a problem. He went to Mia and said, “I was upset because I thought you broke the birdhouse.”Mia explained, “A branch was about to fall on it. I tried to move it, but it snapped and damaged the birdhouse. I meant to tell you.”
Sam realised he had misunderstood. “I’m sorry I didn’t talk to you sooner,” he said. Together they repaired the birdhouse, and before long, a robin made its nest inside. As they watched, Sam smiled. “I’m glad we worked things out“ “Me too,” said Mia.
And they remembered that when people talk, listen, and forgive, friendships can be made whole again.
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

O God and Father of all that was, is and ever shall be,
help us to be thankful for all that is made
at the hands of your Son
and through the wisdom of your Spirit,
that we may care in heart and in deed for the life of our world,
to the praise and glory of your holy name. Amen
Prayer for Sunday 13th September
Creator God,
you made the goodness of the land,
the riches of the sea
and the rhythm of the seasons;
as we thank you for the harvest,
may we cherish and respect
this planet and its peoples,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
