Welcome to St. Nicks for Trinity 5, Sunday 30th June.
Dear Friends,
Grace and peace to you all!
I am Rev Dr. Augustine Tanner-Ihm, OMS, and it is with a heart full of joy that I write to you today.
While I have been away, something wonderful has happened—I have gotten engaged! My partner, Keenan Judge, and I are thrilled to announce our engagement and look forward to the day we become civil partners. This significant step in our lives is a testament to the love and support we have received from each of you, and we are excited to celebrate this union in the future.
As we share this personal milestone, let us also reflect on the spiritual journey we are all part of. Today, I would like to share a short reflection on Mark 5:21-43, a passage that speaks volumes about faith and healing.
In this passage, we witness two miraculous healings performed by Jesus. Jairus, a synagogue leader, pleads with Jesus to heal his dying daughter. On the way, a woman who had been suffering from a chronic illness for twelve years reaches out in faith to touch Jesus’ cloak. She believes that just a touch will heal her—and it does. Jesus commends her faith and tells her to go in peace, healed from her affliction.
When they finally reach Jairus’ home, they find that his daughter has died. But Jesus, with a word, raises her back to life, saying, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”
This narrative is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of faith. The woman’s faith was her bridge to healing, and Jairus’ faith led to the restoration of his daughter’s life. As we face our own challenges and seek healing in various aspects of our lives, let us be encouraged by their examples. Let us reach out to God with the same conviction, knowing that our faith can lead to remarkable changes.
May this reflection inspire us to trust in God’s power to bring salvation, even in seemingly hopeless situations. Let us hold fast to our faith, for it is in believing that we find our strength and our peace.
With every blessing,
Rev Dr. Augustine Tanner-Ihm, OMS
