Welcome to St Nick’s for Trinity 13, Sunday 25th August
. As we continue our journey together in faith and community, I am reminded of the deep connection we share through Christ—a connection that sustains us, nourishes us, and calls us to a deeper understanding of His presence in our lives.
This week’s Gospel reading, from John 6:56-69, offers us a profound reflection on the nature of discipleship and the power of Christ’s words. In this passage, Jesus speaks of the intimate relationship He offers to those who believe in Him, saying, “Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.” This imagery is both challenging and comforting, inviting us to reflect on the true meaning of being united with Christ.
To abide in Christ is to fully embrace His teachings, to trust in His presence, and to allow His life to flow through us. It is a call to deeper faith, even when we are confronted with difficult truths or when others around us may turn away. As we read further, we see that some of Jesus’ followers found His words too hard to accept and chose to leave. Yet, Peter’s response is a powerful testament to the commitment of true discipleship: “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
In our own lives, we may face moments of doubt, confusion, or fear. But like Peter, we are invited to hold fast to the truth that Christ offers us—eternal life through His Word. This assurance gives us strength to face the challenges of our world, knowing that we are never alone, and that in Christ, we find our true home.
As we reflect on these words, let us also consider how we can live them out in our daily lives. How can we, as a church community, continue to be a source of hope, love, and support for one another? How can we embody the spirit of unity that Christ calls us to, especially in a world that often seems divided?
May this reflection inspire us all to deepen our commitment to Christ and to one another, as we continue to grow as a community rooted in His love.
Blessings to you all,
