Welcome to St. Nick’s for Trinity 10, Sunday 4th August
Rest as Resistance
Dear Community of St. Nicholas Kingsway,
Peace and grace to you all!
Next week, I will be taking a few days during the week, to retreat to the beautiful Island of Jersey. This time away is an opportunity for me to reflect, think, and pray about what is next for our community and for myself. In our busy lives, it is crucial to remember the importance of rest. Rest is not just a physical necessity but a spiritual discipline and a form of resistance against the constant demands of our world. In the Scriptures, Jesus often goes away and rest and reflects on life and vision. As I’m fully done with my curacy and would need to leave by next summer, there is a lot of rest and praying to do about life’s next steps.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This invitation is a reminder that rest is a gift from God, a time to recharge and reconnect with Him. By taking time to rest, we resist the pressures to always be productive and acknowledge our need for God’s presence and guidance.
I encourage each of you to find moments of rest in your daily lives. Whether it’s a quiet walk in nature, a moment of prayer, or simply sitting in silence, let us make rest a priority. As we rest, may we find renewed strength and clarity to continue our journey with God.
Please keep me in your prayers during this retreat, and know that I am praying for each of you. Let us embrace rest as a form of resistance and a way to deepen our relationship with God.
In Christ’s love,
Revd Dr Augustine Tanner-Ihm
