Welcome to St Nick’s for Sunday 20th and 27th July
Dear Friends,
Rev Augustine is recovering from a tooth extraction, so here is a short message to open our newsletter. Please keep Augustine in your prayers as he recovers.
Our Gospel readings each Sunday will be from Luke. We will listen to sermons based on Luke every Sunday too.
Our Gospel reading on 20th July will be from Luke chapter 10 vs 38-42, the passage centers on the story of Martha and Mary.
As Jesus entered the village, Martha welcomed Him into her home, bustling with preparations and the duties of hospitality. Her sister Mary, however, chose a quieter path—sitting at Jesus’s feet, absorbing His words. Martha, overwhelmed and frustrated, asked Jesus to intervene. But He gently reminded her that while many things may seem urgent, only one thing is truly necessary. Mary had chosen that “better part,” and it would not be taken from her.
This story reminds us to stop and think about what really matters. In a world that often values being busy, Jesus encourages us to slow down, be present, and listen deeply. It doesn’t mean helping others isn’t important, but it shows that spending time with God helps us serve others in a better way.
With every blessing,
Alison
