St.Nick’s newsletter for Sunday 15th December
Dear Friends,
This past Sunday’s Christingle service was such a beautiful expression of light, hope, and joy. Seeing the children’s faces illuminated in the glow of their Christingles reminded me of our mission and vision as a church—to be a place of creativity, community, and compassion for the people of Kingsway. Thank you to the wonderful Jill for making me into a lovely Christingle. Alongside this, the Kingsway Christmas Markets have been a wonderful way to bring our neighbours together, sharing in the festive spirit and extending God’s love beyond our walls. Even Santa showed up!
I am excited to preach and preside this Sunday for Advent 3 as we reflect on Luke 3:7-18, where John the Baptist challenges us to prepare the way for the Lord. It’s a passage filled with urgency and hope, calling us to align our hearts and lives with God’s kingdom. Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come.” Advent is a time to prepare, to wait, and to hope—but it’s also a time to act.
As you come to worship this Sunday, I encourage you to come with expectant hearts, ready to meet Christ in the readings, the music, and the sacraments. Here are three questions to ponder as we journey through this Advent season:
1. How are you preparing room in your heart and life for Christ this Advent?
2. What might repentance look like for you in this season of waiting and hope?
3. How can you share God’s light and compassion with someone in need this week?
Let’s gather this Sunday with open hearts and minds, ready to encounter the living God and to share His hope with our community.
Yours in Christ,
Revd Dr Augustine Tanner-Ihm
