Welcome to St.Nick’s for Sunday 5th and 12th July
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus compares the people of his time to children sitting in the marketplace who are never happy. Some complain because others would not dance to joyful music, while others complain because they would not mourn to sad music. Jesus uses this picture to show how people found reasons to reject both John the Baptist and himself, even though they were very different.
John the Baptist lived a simple and strict life, calling people to repent, but many said he was possessed by a demon. Jesus spent time eating and drinking with ordinary people and sinners, yet people accused him of being a glutton and a drunkard. The problem was not with God’s messengers, but with people’s unwillingness to listen and accept God’s message. Jesus reminds us that God’s wisdom is shown by its fruits and the good it produces.
Jesus then thanks God the Father because the message of God’s kingdom is revealed to those who are humble and open-hearted, rather than to those who think they already know everything. He teaches that he has a special relationship with the Father and that people come to know God through him.
The Gospel ends with one of Jesus’ most comforting invitations: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Jesus speaks to everyone who feels tired, worried, weighed down by difficulties, or struggling with life’s burdens. He invites us to trust him and follow him. Unlike the heavy burdens people often carry, Jesus’ way brings peace because he is gentle, loving, and humble.
Jesus invites everyone who is struggling to come to him, trust in him, and find true rest, peace, and joy.

We look forward to welcoming back Rev Canon Patrick Davies to preside and James Wilson a reader in training from St.James and Emmanuel to preach at our All Age Worship Service which starts at 10.45am. Music will be provided by Christian Fields with prayers and the Gospel reading delivered by St Nick’s team. Refreshments will be served after the service.
Sunday 12th July
We look forward to welcoming back Rev Canon Patrick Davies to preside and preach on Trinity 4. Christian Fields our MD and Organist will accompany the hymns and chants. Members of St.Nick’s team will deliver readings, prayers and refreshments.
