Welcome to St.Nick’s on Sunday 5th April, Easter Sunday
Dear Friends,
Matthew’s story about the first Easter Sunday morning is full of drama. There is an earthquake, a shining angel, and guards who fall to the ground as if they were dead. If Easter Day were shown on TV in the style of a Doctor Who episode, Matthew’s version is probably the one they would use.
Matthew is a strong storyteller, and his account certainly gets our attention. People still discuss how much of it happened exactly as he describes. It’s possible there really was an earthquake that morning – that area does get earthquakes – and many people believe it happened just as Matthew says.
Jesus tells them again, “Do not be afraid,” and then he sends them out to “go and tell” others.
So this Easter, let us respond as those women did: let us hold on to Jesus, listen to his words “do not be afraid,” worship him, and trust deeply in the truth of the resurrection. And let us go and share this powerful good news with others.
