Welcome to St.Nick’s on Sunday 19th and 26th October 2025
Dear friends,
The end of October draws near, and with it the deepening of autumn’s darkness. Yet the Scriptures remind us that the darker the night, the brighter Christ’s light shines.
Jesus tells His disciples:
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
As the evenings grow long and shadows lengthen, we are invited to be people of light — through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, and steadfast hope.
Our takeaway this week: we are called to be bearers of light in dark times. Not through grand gestures, but through small daily acts of love that together create a beacon of hope.
Here in the UK, October also marks the beginning of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. As we wear poppies in remembrance of sacrifice, we also shine a light of hope for peace. It is a cultural echo of the Gospel’s call that light shines most brightly when it honours love, sacrifice, and peace.
May St. Nicholas Kingsway be a community that shines like a lantern in Burnage not hidden away, but visible and welcoming, a sign of Christ’s love for all.
With my prayers,
Revd Dr Augustine Tanner-Ihm
