St.Nick’s newsletter for Sunday 11th and 18th May 2025
Messages from Rev Dr K. Augustine Tanner-Ihm
Newsletter Introduction for Sunday, 11th May
Dear Members of St Nicks Kingsway,
As we gather for worship this Sunday, we reflect on the readings for the Fourth Sunday of Easter. Our first reading from Acts 2:14a, 36-41 reminds us of Peter’s powerful sermon, calling us to repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. The Gospel reading from John 10:1-10 presents Jesus as the Good Shepherd, guiding us with love and care.
In the world around us, we witness significant events shaping our global community. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with the UN issuing stark warnings about the urgent need for aid . Meanwhile, the measles outbreak in North America has reached alarming levels, highlighting the importance of public health measures. Amidst these challenges, we are called to be a beacon of hope and compassion.
Let us come together in prayer and solidarity, seeking God’s guidance and strength to navigate these times. May our faith inspire us to act with love and justice in our communities.
Blessings, Revd Augustine
Newsletter Introduction for Sunday, 18th May
Dear Members of St Nicks Kingsway,
As we approach the Fifth Sunday of Easter, our readings invite us to deepen our understanding of God’s love and grace. The first reading from Acts 7:55-60 recounts the martyrdom of Stephen, reminding us of the courage and faith required to witness for Christ. The Gospel reading from John 14:1-12 offers words of comfort and assurance, as Jesus promises to prepare a place for us in His Father’s house.
In the broader world, we continue to see impactful events unfold. The construction of the first road link between North Korea and Russia marks a significant development in international relations Additionally, the world’s oldest person, Ethel Caterham, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and longevity These moments remind us of the interconnectedness of our global community and the importance of fostering peace and understanding.
As we gather in worship, let us hold these reflections in our hearts, praying for those affected by global events and seeking ways to contribute positively to our world. May our faith be a source of strength and inspiration. I’m away for a few weeks in the USA. Please pray for Keenan and I as we travel and see my family and have two family weddings and of course miss Rambo (our Dog) and all of you.
Blessings, Revd AugustineRevd Dr Augustine Tanner-Ihm, OMS

A prayer for Sunday 11th May
Risen Christ,
faithful shepherd of your Father’s sheep:
teach us to hear your voice
and to follow your command,
that all your people may be gathered into one flock,
to the glory of God the Father
Amen.
A prayer for Sunday 18th May
Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
grant that, as by your grace going before us
you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual help
we may bring them to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our risen Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
